In 2013, the 30-year-old mother was diagnosed with HIV for the first time. NBC news.
“I have a healthy family. I don’t need to give any meds, and I live as though nothing ever happened. This is already a privilege,” said the woman, who declined to give her name to NBC News.
Co-authors of the study said that the medical community must determine why the woman was cured from the virus by her immune system so it can be replicated in others.
HIV infection is not uncommon. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), HIV can be controlled with appropriate medical care.
