The recommendation is to first ensure that the doses are distributed as widely as possible in the population. Next, the country should start the third dose with the oldest patient.
Geneva. (apro). – The World Health Organization recommends that all adults over 60 who have received the Chinese vaccines Sinopharm or Huaxing be vaccinated with the third dose of vaccine. This is because they are less protected from these vaccines.
The WHO has approved the following vaccines: Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Pfizer.
SAGE Secretary Joachim Hombach said: “We have evidence that (Sinopharm Group and Kexing) provide limited protection for people in this age group (over 60 years of age).”
SAGE recommends that countries first maximize coverage of both doses within the population and then begin the third dose at the oldest age.
SAGE also recommends that people with severe and moderate immunosuppression get the third dose of any approved covid-19 vaccine. This is because they are less likely to respond to the vaccinations and may develop serious illnesses.
Bharat Biotech’s Covid-19 vaccine (COVAXIN), was also examined by the WHO expert team. A series of recommendations will be made when the vaccine is added to the WHO’s emergency list.
Global vaccine strategy against covid-19
SAGE calls for a global vaccination strategy that continues to prioritize high-risk populations. It is expected that 70% of the world’s population will have a complete vaccine plan by mid-2022.
Experts agreed that more scientific evidence will be available to keep their report current. They also reminded that all stakeholders must take collective and coordinated action to achieve the global vaccination goals and objectives.
