The league office announced on Thursday that UTEP’s student athletes have won 71 school medals from the American Conference Commissioner for school performance. This number exceeds the previous standard established in 2019-20 (49).
Medals are awarded to C-USA student athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
“We are very pleased that students with 71 student records of UTEP are eligible for the academic medal from C-USA this year,” said Heather Smith, Assistant Vice President of Student Counseling and Services. “The fact that many of our student-athletes have a GPA of 3.75 is impressive and it proves their commitment to academic success. A college degree will eventually open the door for them, and we are happy for their continued success in the classroom. “
The men’s basketball team contributed three students to the 71 winners. They were Keonte Kennedy, Ze’Rik Onyema and Kristian Sjolund. The women’s team had five, Avery Crouse, Brenda Fontana, Sabine Lipe, Tatyana Modawar and Michelle Pruitt. .
In American football, there are 14 recognized players, two from men’s golf, one from women’s golf, four from girls with rifles, eight from football, ten from softball, and seven from tennis. And four from men’s track and field, two from women’s track and eleven from the volleyball team.
In addition, it was announced on Wednesday that the school performance of 202 UTEP student-athletes was ranked high on the C-USA Commissioner’s “Academic Honor Roll.” The previous number was 174 and it was established in the 2019-20 school year. In addition, this is the third consecutive year that UTEP student athletes have broken records.
The cumulative GPA of the student athletes listed on the list remains at 3.0 or higher.
