Kabul, Afghanistan (Associated Press). U.S. officials stated that on Sunday, a drone attack by the U.S. destroyed a vehicle containing “several” suicide bombers from the Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan. May attack Kabul International Airport’s military evacuation operation. Officials in Afghanistan claimed that the strike resulted in the deaths of three children.
The strike was carried out two days ago. The United States will suspend a large-scale, two-week-long airlift to transport more than 114,000 Afghans, foreigners, as well as withdrawing the last troop, ending the longest conflict between the United States, Afghanistan, and the Taliban.
The US Central Command issued a statement saying that it was aware of reports about civilian casualties and was evaluating the impact of the attack. Navy Captain William Urban (William Urban), a spokesperson for the Central Command, said that the “huge and strong” explosion following the attack was the result of the destruction the vehicle. He also suggested that additional casualties could have been caused by this.
The US State Department released a statement that was signed by more than 100 countries, NATO and EU, as well as NATO or the European Union. This stated that they had received “guarantees from the Taliban” that travelers with travel documents may still leave the country. After the United States pulls out, the Taliban stated that normal travel will be allowed after they take over the airport.
Security reasons forbid the Afghan official from naming his identity. Witnesses claim that the drone struck two cars parked near the airport. The incident resulted in the deaths and injuries of several civilians. Officials initially stated that a second rocket attack was made on the building next to the airport. But, it turned up to be the same incident.
According to a senior U.S. Official, the missile was fired at a vehicle in the compound that lies between the two buildings after the drone saw someone load explosives in their trunk. According to the official, the missile caused an initial explosion. Then, a bigger fireball was produced by the large amount of explosives inside the vehicle. Two Islamic State personnel were believed to have been killed by the missile.
Official said that the second explosion caused significant damage to a nearby structure. The official did not want to be identified but shared information about military operations.
Dina Mohammadi stated that her extended relatives lived in the building, and that several people, including children were, killed. She was unable to immediately give the age or name of the victim.
Karim, a regional representative, stated that the strike had caused a fire which made it difficult to rescue people. He said, “There was smoke everywhere and I took out some children and women.”
Ahmaduddin, Neighbor, claimed that he had collected the bodies from children who were killed in the attack. As many Afghans, each of these people has a name.
Urban stated that he was deeply affected by the loss of innocent life.
Urban stated earlier in the day that the United States is confident the missile will hit its target. Urban stated that the secondary explosion showed the presence of “a lot of explosive material” within the vehicle.
