Google confirms that Epic is allowed to launch Fortnite without paying on Google Play.
Epic Games, which has been subject to increased tensions with Apple recently faces a counterclaim by Google for allegedly violating rules within the Play Store.
The technology giant claimed that Fortnite was updated by the Play Store and allowed the purchase of in-app products at discounted prices without having to go through the Google rate.
This legal change comes as Epic Games and Apple continue to battle. It could lead to Fortnite being removed from the App Store in the future.
After Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Google and the Play Store in the summer 2020 seeking to change the terms between developers and application stores, the court heard from Google.
Mountain View was a calmer company than Apple at the time. However, he now claims Epic has become unfairly wealthy at Google’s expense.
The technology company also stated that, unlike Apple, Google Play does not require developers to use it as an Android store.
Google confirms that Epic is allowed to launch Fortnite apps with Android support without having to pay in Google Play. However, Epic must be outside of the Play Store.
This has allowed Fortnite to be updated on Android via other stores that support the operating system. However, Google is now seeking compensation for the money it did not receive for external payments.
The future course of the dispute will change with this new chapter in Epic Games. It is certain that everyone lost in this dispute.
Epic has lost access and potential players to Fortnite, and Apple has stopped entering 30 per cent of Fortnite’s transactions.
