Madrid (EUROPA PRESS)-Maria Van Kerkhove, a doctor in charge of emerging and zoonotic diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO), reports that the agency has been working for two months to change the name of the covid-19 variant.

He explained that the purpose of doing so is “not to shame those countries or regions where they were first discovered and the people who live there.”

And, by far, the three most famous variants are commonly referred to as the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil.

Finally, regarding the vaccination passport, Michael Ryan, the executive director of the WHO’s emergency plan, insisted that the organization supports the creation of vaccination certificates as a health tool, but does not support other uses beyond the health field.
