BUFFALO (NY)WKBW) — The United States is expected to open the land border to vaccinated Canadians in November, according to Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26).
This statement was made by Congressman Higgins:
Finally, the United States is taking action to welcome back Canadians and open their doors.
A robust cross-border exchange between the United States and Canada is fundamental to our binational relationship and mutually beneficial to our nations’ citizens, businesses and economies. The Canadian vaccination rate is high, making it absurd and inexcusable to continue closing the border.
For months now we’ve heard from businesses that are suffering and families distraught over the separation imposed by the continued border shutdown. After this announcement, the relief sighs from Northern Border communities can be heard almost on both sides of the Peace Bridge.
The administration has yet to provide further details to border communities. With great expectation, I will continue advocating for open borders to both governments.
U.S. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer said that the border would reopen “earlyNovember.”
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, members of our shared cross-border community have felt the pain and economic hardship of the land border closures. This pain is coming to an end. Very soon, the link between New York and our northern neighbors will finally be re-established, reuniting families, bolstering businesses, and ending a frustrating cycle of waiting for everyone involved,” says Sen. Schumer.
Higgins says that proof of vaccination is required.
