The boxing fight between Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns and Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Durán will be recorded in the next four parts of the documentary.
Showtime will broadcast the documentary “The Kings” from June 6th, and its production will focus on four Hall of Fame fighters who met face to face in nine ways in the 1980s and made some of the biggest lawsuits.
This series of battles began in 1980 when the Panamanian Danán defeated Leonard at the first meeting. The culmination of this movement was the tie between Leonard and Hearns in the second matchup in 1989.
These included Hagler’s defeat of Hearns in the 1985 bout, which included an epic first-round match, considered one of the best in history, and Leonard ) Controversial victory over Hearns in 1987.
Three of these games were named “Best Fight of the Year” by “The Ring” magazine.
Stephen Espinoza, president of Shin Shin Sports, said the four fighters “defined the era of boxing” and re-established the sport’s popularity after Muhammad Ali retired.
All episodes of the weekly series will be available in streaming and on-demand on the Showtime platform.
