Monza– The Monza circuit was selected as the second sprint race of the 2021 Formula One season.
Checo beat Lance Stroller’s Aston Martin in the middle of the race to get back to his starting position. However, he was unable to bypass the track boundary so he had the task of returning his place to his former teammate. Guadalajara’s Guadalajara managed to maneuver the curve perfectly in his second attempt.
Both the car and the driver were tested in the palace for speed. It was the Mexican Sergio Pérez, who started from 9th and kept his position on the yellow tires.
Lewis Hamilton, who finished second, had a bad start and was overtaken both by Verstappen as well as Lando Norris (both McLaren drivers), so he ended up scoring points in fifth.
Valtteri Bottas won the sprint. He knew how to defend his position, and he achieved a 2 second advantage over Mercedes in second place, this time with Max Vertappen’s Red Bull.
Pierre Gasly lost control after making a small contact with McLaren Ricardo in the first lap. The yellow flag was then displayed for several minutes.
Bottas gained 3 points, Verstappen got 2 points, Ricardo gained 1 point. But the engine set-change meant that the Finn on the back row received a penalty.
