AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order Monday banning any entity, including private companies, from imposing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate on employees. He also urged state lawmakers to adopt a similar ban.
Although the Republican had previously attempted to prohibit state and local governments from enforcing bans, he had not been able to follow the rules that companies had established for their employees.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the final injunction would be subject to a speedy court.
Recent declines in COVID-19 hospitalizations and new cases in Texas have been noticed.
However, with the rising death toll due to the latest wave of the delta variant, the state is quickly approaching 67,000 deaths.
