The Frontier Team and the League announced yesterday that the El Paso Aircraft Team will be one of the four teams to represent the U.S. Open champion team in the 2021 U.S. Open Lamar Hunter, as well as the Phoenix Rising Football Club, Louisville. City Football Club and Tampa Bay Rodis. After the reorganization of the tournament, “Locos” will enter the 16th round and compete with MLS, the USL champion and the first team in the USL league.
“We are very happy to be a member of the U.S. Open. During our first two seasons as a club, our work was unparalleled. Since we won the group championship in 2020 and reached the two Western Conference finals, these achievements have allowed us. Proud,” said Mark Lowry of Border Machine Trainer.
The British coach clarified that they are not satisfied with what they have achieved because they want to win the trophy and be regarded as one of the best teams in the country.
“We think the cup is an opportunity. It is a game. We believe that we have the ability to go further. We will go all out to win that historic trophy.”
After voting by the council, “Locos” participated in the 2020 USL Champions League finalists Phoenix Rising Football Club, Louisville City Football Club and Tampa Bay Rodis League representatives.
In the year that USL made its debut, the locomotive participated in the 2019 Open Cup and lost to USL League One team Forward Madison FC in the first game 3-0.
At the meeting last week, the Cup Committee decided not to hold the opening match originally scheduled for May 4th to 5th. Now, the organizational structure of the tournament includes 16 teams, in order to pursue the 2021 U.S. Open championship, they will conduct four rounds of competition.
The 16th round of the tentative draw is planned to be held on April 7th. The committee will review the relevant matters before April 19th to confirm whether the cup can start from the knockout stage on May 18th to 19th. All games from the 16th round to the final will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
