JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — Searchers in an unrelated case were able to locate a body of a man after extensive news coverage about a woman who was found dead in Wyoming.
A search dog and a team searched for four hours Tuesday to find the body. The body was identified as Robert Bob’ Lowery according to a Teton County Search & Rescue Statement.
Lowery, 46, from Houston, was reported missing on Aug. 20. The body of the man was discovered on a steep slope in the Teton Pass area in western Wyoming.
The cause of death was not immediately determined. Lowery’s family was notified by authorities while they waited for confirmation that the body was his.
Reports about Gabby Petito (22) who disappeared on a cross country road trip, and whose body was discovered near Grand Teton National Park in September 19, often mention Lowery’s disappearance. According to searchers Tuesday, at least two people called authorities seeking information on Lowery.
Lowery was wearing a black cap with a letter “P” in gold. He was also seen carrying a Nike logo-branded duffel bag. According to searchers, they found a bag that matched the description and was far from the canyon trail.
Lowery’s sister Leigh Lowery told the Jackson Hole News & Guide that the bag contained a tent as well as a sleeping bag.
His sister described him as a sweet, gentle child.
Petito was discovered in the Teton Pass Canyon, approximately 45 miles (72km) from his body. Petito was reported missing by her parents on Sept. 11, after she failed to respond to texts and calls during her West-bound trip with boyfriend Brian Laundrie.
Petito’s death is now considered homicide. That means she was killed by another individual. Wyoming’s medical examiners aren’t revealing how she died.
Laundrie is facing federal charges in Wyoming for unauthorized debit card use. Authorities allege that Laundrie used a Capital One Bank credit card and someone else’s personal identification number in order to make more $1,000 in unauthorized withdrawals.
Authorities have yet to reveal the identity of Laundrie who allegedly used Laundrie’s card.
Authorities are looking for Laundrie as a person of concern in Petito’s case.
