NORFOLK VA (AP) – A Virginia college professor has announced that they will resign following threats to their recently published book.
Allyn Walker uses the pronouns she or she as an assistant professor at Old Dominion University in sociology and criminal law.
Walker’s book contains interviews with more 40 adults who were sexually attracted towards minors.
The book argued that detigmatizing sexual attraction would increase the number of people seeking help, and eventually prevent child sexual abuse.
Walker stated that some media outlets and online sites mischaracterized Walker’s research in part due to their transgender identity.
Walker’s book’s preface states they aren’t trying to normalize or downplay child sexual abuse.
Walker was granted leave following concerns raised by campus security officials about Walker’s response to the book.
Walker will remain on leave through May 2022 when their contract ends.
