The United States Capitol Police said Monday they arrested a man near the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, who was armed with multiple knives, including a bayonet and a machete.
In a press releaseAt around midnight, the department said, a Special Operations Division officer noticed a Dodge Dakota pickup truck with a swastika and other white racist symbols painted on it outside DNC headquarters.
In a press release, the department stated that the officer noticed that the license plate had been replaced with a photo of the American flag.
According to police, the bayonet and machete found in the vehicle were illegal in Washington, DC.
Donald Craighead, a 44-year old Californian, was taken into police custody for possessing prohibited weapons.
“This is an excellent example of the work our officers do every day,” said Jason Bell, deputy chief of the Operational Services Bureau. We are proud of these officers’ vigilance.
Capitol police say it is not known if Craighead tried to attend any of the demonstrations.
