Authorities in Memphis say a child was shot and injured at school, and the alleged juvenile shooter has turned himself in.
According to Memphis Police, officers responded at 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Cummings Elementary School, where they found a 13-year-old boy had been shot.
Police said that the student was in a stable but critical condition when they took him to a local hospital.
The suspect, police said, was another student who fled the school in a vehicle following the shooting.
Later, police confirmed that the minor male suspect had surrendered and was taken into custody.
Shelby County Schools Cummings K-8 houses classes from kindergarten through eighth grades.
Officials from the school stated on social media that lockdown was in effect and that parents were informed of the situation.
According to police, the school has been evacuated.
Police confirmed that they are still investigating the incident and have not yet determined the motive.
