Colliville, Tennessee (Associated Press) – Thursday afternoon, one person was killed and 12 others were injured in a shooting at a Tennessee grocery store. The gunman was later found dead in a Memphis store. Gunshot wounds. According to the authorities.
Collierville Police chief Dale Lane claimed that the shooting happened at a Kroger shop in his suburban community, which is about 30 miles (50km) east Memphis. He stated that 13 people were injured, 12 were taken by ambulance to the hospital and one of them was seriously wounded.
He stated that the special police team along with other officers discovered people hiding in an aisle of a store and moved them into a safe area. According to him, the gunman died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot injury.
“We found someone hiding inside the freezer in a locked room. They were doing the things they were trained to do, which was escape, hide, fight,” said the chief.
The identities and victims of the shooting did not become public immediately.
Lane told reporters after the shooting that it was a sad time for his department during a press conference.
“I have been involved for 34years and I have never seen anything comparable before,” he said to reporters.
He added that investigators are trying to figure out what happened, adding: “It will take a while for us to know what happened.”
