Tropical Storm Pamela has been strengthening in the Pacific Ocean offshore Mexico. Forecasters believe it will reach hurricane strength by Wednesday morning, when it will be heading north towards Mazatlan.
Pamela was reduced to a tropical hurricane on Tuesday afternoon. The storm was 170 miles (275km) west-southwest from Mazatlan, according to the US National Hurricane Center. It moved at approximately 12 mph north-northeast on Tuesday.
Maximum winds were about 70 mph (110 km/h) during the storm.
The hurricane center is warning about potentially life-threatening storm waves, flash flooding, and dangerous winds in the vicinity of the impact zone.
Texas may be affected by remnants of Hurricane Harvey on Thursday.
