It remains to be seen what OPPO will offer in a market that is pushing for mobility transition.
Globally, the electric automobile industry has a lot of work ahead. However, more companies are investing in this market. OPPO, after Xiaomi, seems to be developing its own electric vehicle.
The information came from the hands of 91MobilesOPPO’s first ever electric car will be launched in 2023, they say.
Information about the project is scarce at this time. It is however speculated that it would be limited to India in order to meet the increasing demand for electric mobility.
This is an important point to remember. In India, electric cars sales have increased 234 per cent, from 1,872 units last April 2020 to 6,261 this month.
OPPO’s potential alliances for the project are not known. Technical specifications are also not available. It remains to see what OPPO can offer in a marketplace where the government is leading the mobility transition.
India’s government provides subsidies to assist with the reduction of barriers to adoption of electric mobility, such as a lack of infrastructure for charging.
Therefore, the government invites organizations, companies, and actors from electricity to assist in creating a better charging infrastructure along the country’s major highways. This initiative could include OPPO.
