HOUSTON (AP) — Tropical Storm Nicholas is gaining strength and threatening to blow ashore as a hurricane in Texas.
Forecasters predict it could bring 20 inches of rain to some parts of the Gulf Coast. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Nicholas can create tornadoes along the coast.
The storm is expected to strike the same region as Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and hurricane-ravaged Louisiana.
Although the system is not expected to produce as much rain as Harvey’s, almost the entire state was under a tropical Storm Warning, which includes possible flash flooding and urban flooding.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that authorities had deployed rescue teams and other assets along the coast and in the Houston region.
