A company from America could face a possible $13,400 fine, or even temporary suspension of service, if found guilty.
Mexico City (apro).- Netflix is under investigation by the Russian government for spreading “gay propaganda”.
Olga Baranets (Russian Commissioner) filed a complaint with the Ministry of the Interior claiming that the streaming media company violated the 2013 law banning the dissemination of “propaganda concerning non-traditional sexual behaviors.”
Baranet guarantees that anyone under 18 years old will not violate the law while watching a series on LGBT-themed programming cataloged for Americans over 16.
Vedomosti, a local newspaper, reports that the American company could be subject to a fine of up 1 million rubles ($13,000.400) or the suspension of services if it is found to have broken the law.
Russian authorities are considering changes in the regulation of streaming media services.
In 2017, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Russia’s homosexual propaganda law violated European treaty rules, the right to freedom of speech, and discriminated against LGBT people. Moscow claimed the ruling was unjust.
