United Airlines said nearly 600 of its employees are being laid off for refusing to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
The company introduced a vaccination mandate policy in August. Employees were given until September 27 to show proof that they have received at least one shot.
CNBC According to reports, 96% of United employees have been vaccinated. 3% have requested a waiver for medical or religious reasons.
United will initiate layoffs for 594 employees who have not adhered to company policies The Dallas Morning News. A spokesperson for United said that the airline would work with employees to help them vaccinate.
United employs over 60,000 Americans.
