NASA will launch a “planetary defence-driven test” on Tuesday night.
Double Asteroid Reduction Test’s (DART) purpose is to modify speed and path of an asteroids using kinetic-impactor technology.
NASA declared that DART’s asteroid is harmless and poses no danger to Earth.
NASA stated, “While there is no known asteroid greater than 140 meters that has a good chance of hitting Earth within the next 100 year,” NASA reported.
The DART spacecraft will be launched at 10:20 p.m. PST aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
The spacecraft is expected reach its destination in September 2022. It will then start testing its impact on the Asteroid.
According to European Space Agency, it will be the first time that humans have tried to alter the dynamic of a body within the solar system. CNN.
