COLUMBIA (SC) – A prominent South Carolina lawyer has been accused of stealing insurance policies intended for his sons.
According to state police, Alex Murdaugh was taken into custody Thursday at a rehabilitation facility in Orlando. His lawyers claim that he spent the last six weeks there since he said he was shot in his head.
Two felony charges of obtaining property with false pretenses were not immediately made public.
However, the state police claim that they have been following Murdaugh’s housekeeper Gloria Satterfield for many decades.
According to a lawsuit filed by the sons of the housekeeper, Murdaugh arranged over $4 million in insurance payments for Satterfield’s funeral but did not turn the money over her family.
