MIAMI GARDENS, FL-Saturday No. 22 The most notable catch between Miami University (FL-Saturday No. 3) was not on the court.
Not even football. This is a cat.
The animal managed to enter the Hard Rock Stadium and grabbed one of its feet on the upper deck of the first section. The animal eventually fell to the lower levels of the stadium. Fans used temporary nets to secure the flag before the animal was safely transported to safety.
Craig Cromer, University of Miami facility manager and holder of a season ticket, and Kimberly Cromer brought the national flag to every home match. “It was hanging with two frontpaws for a while then it moved to one paw and then I thought, ‘Oh my god, it’s coming soon!'”
The Cromers took the flag out of the tie that was used to attach it to the railing and wished the best. The terrified cat fell on its face, bounced off the flag and was finally protected by nearby students before being taken by stadium security guards.
Manny Diaz, Miami’s coach, said that he was only informed about the incident by the cat after the game. The Hurricanes beat Appalachian State 25-23 on Saturday.
Diaz stated that he didn’t know much about the incident and did not know the details. “But I will tell ya that if this cat is able to help us in red zone offense, then I will look into giving it a scholarship.”
The cat did not show any signs of injury.
