NEW YORK, N.Y. — Malikah Shabazz, one of the daughters of Malcolm X, has died.
Bernice King, a daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., reacted to Shabazz’s death on Twitter.
“I’m deeply saddened by the death of #MalikahShabazz. My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X,” tweeted King. “Dr. Shabazz was a pregnant woman with Malikah, her twin sister Malaak, at the time Brother Malcolm was assassinated. Be at peace, Malikah.”
Shabazz died a week after her father was murdered by two men. A judge vacated the convictions of Muhammad Aziz, and Khalil Islamic on Thursday.
Malcolm X was a Muslim minister and civil right leader who was being attacked as he began a speech at Harlem’s Audubon Ballroom on February 21, 1965.
Shabazz and her twin sister were the youngest of Malcolm X’s six daughters. The twins’ mother was pregnant with them when the activist was assassinated.
Shabazz was the star of 2017’s headlines when her daughter and she were arrested for animal cruelty after they discovered several dogs in a stolen U-Haul. the AP reports.
