Lyft, a ride-hailing service, claims that more than 1,800 sexual assaults by riders were reported in 2019. The number has increased sharply in recent times.
Lyft provided the numbers in a recent safety report.
According to the Associated PressLyft stated that they have received 1,096 sexual assault reports on their app in 2017, 1,255 in 2018, and 1,807 by 2019.
The AP reported that 156 cases were non-consensual.
According to the company, over 99% of rides go without any safety issues being reported.
The report lists 10 attacks that were deadly between 2017-2019.
According to the AP, four of these occurred in 2019.
Each year, the report covered sexual assaults, which can range from touching to penetration.
More than half of these people touched a sexual part in 2019 voluntarily.
