Biden’s administration has asked courts to lift a Texas law which bans abortions in Texas since September.
The latest request came Monday night, as many patients from Texas travel hundreds of kilometers to seek care at clinics in Oklahoma and Louisiana.
Senate Bill 8 is the law that imposes the most severe abortion restrictions in the United States. It prohibits abortions after cardiac activity is detected. This is typically around six weeks before most women realize they are pregnant.
After Texas appealed quickly, a federal judge temporarily suspended the law.
