The promoter of Mariachi music, the Valence composer José Genaro Barraza Barrón (José Genaro Barraza Barrón) won the Rubén Fuentes 2021 Honor Award at the Biennale
José Genaro Barraza Barrón (José Genaro Barraza Barrón), the composer of Juarez, meets the requirements of structure and form, and respects certain orders of traditional harmony. In the third New Sones Jaliscienses Rubén Fuentes Won the honorary award in the 2021 Biennial Composition Competition.
This competition was created by the Centro Universitario del Sur of University of Guadalajara. It aims to encourage composers of traditional sound, such 70-year-old works.

“I will receive an honorary award from the university on the land of Don Rubén Fuentes. We all know that he is the foundation of Mexican music’s history. He was the one who made it possible to transition from traditional mariachi music to modern mariachi.He said that he was proud of the transition from traditional mariachi to modern mariachi.
He stated that when ranking these works, the judge would consider many aspects. El son de la Guitar, the winner of the award, was chosen because it reflects traditional harmony’s structure and form. Like those who are asked to participate in the competition
At the age of 30, as the director of the Mariachi band, he also won the 2020 Chihuahua Pioneer Science and Art Award for his Rhapsody “The Voice of My Land”.
Barraza stated that the winning works would be released shortly, with Mariachi de La Ciudad performing them.
He founded the Mariachi band, which consists of 14 members from El Paso, Juarez and Chihuahua.
The 2020-born group has just released its first album “Here a mariachi Is Born”, while 12 more will be available in November.
Jose Genaro Baraza Barron
Born on October 19, 1990 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
He has a music degree from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in composition and arrangement at Tito Puente University in Puebla.
He began playing the guitar at the age of 13 and named it after himself.
He was a producer and musician. This song, “The Two of Us”, was recorded by Mariachi Las Mexicanas for Netflix.
He is currently a teacher at Fundación Cultural del Mariachi.
