NEW YORK (AP) – A chief executive of Chinese communications giant Huawei Technologies has resolved the criminal charges against her as part of a deal with the US Department of Justice that could pave the way for her return to China.
This agreement also ends a case that has strained relations between Washington DC and Beijing.
According to the Associated PressIn exchange for the DOJ’s dismissal of the fraud allegations, Meng had to accept responsibility for misrepresenting her company’s business dealings in Iran.
The announcement was made Friday in Brooklyn federal court.
The deal stipulates that the Justice Department must end the case in December or four years from Meng’s arrest.
The AP reported that the DOJ also agreed to withdraw its request to extradite Meng to the US
Meng is the daughter of company founder Ren Zhengfei.
