Jon Gruden, Oakland Raiders head coach, said that there was no racist intent to an email he sent 10 year ago.
The Wall Street JournalFirst reported by Gruden that he used a racial trope to refer to DeMaurice Smith, the president of the NFL Players Association.
Smith, who is black was described by him as having “michellin sized lips”. [sic]Tyres
Gruden claimed he didn’t have a racist thought while sending the email. Gruden said that he was frustrated by the competition at the moment.
Gruden declared on Sunday that he could only affirm his non-racial beliefs.
Gruden seems to be surrounded by players.

Despite Sunday’s loss, players appear to be poised for a new era.
