It is the second visit of the Pope to Lesbos.
Rome (European Media) – The Press Office of Holy See has released a statement stating that the Pope will travel from December 2-6 2021 to Greece and Cyprus to visit Nicosia. Athens, Lesbos, and Nicosia.
This is the second trip by the Pope to Lesbos. He visited the Moriah refugee camps in 2016, and returned to the Vatican with a dozen refugees.
According to the Holy See’s explanation, the pope wanted “to welcome the refugees.” Six of the dozen refugees admitted by the Vatican are minors.
The members of these three families are all Muslims and come from the country’s capital Damascus and the latter’s eastern province controlled by the Islamic State (ISIS).
