The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America installed its first openly transgender bishop in San Francisco on Saturday.
Megan Rohrer, Reverend, will be leading approximately 200 congregations in Northern California or Nevada.
Rohrer, who uses “she” as her pronoun, was elected to a six year term in May. This came after the retirement of the previous bishop.
Rohrer said that his new role shows that God is able to make things happen when we put our faith in Him.
Rohrer previously served as a pastor in San Francisco’s Grace Lutheran Church before being elected bishop. They were also chaplain coordinators for the San Francisco Police Department.
