WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite a long night of frantic negotiations, Democrats are still struggling to reach an agreement on President Joe Biden’s $3.5 trillion government overhaul.
The late-night vote has been cancelled. Voting will resume on Friday.
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, had forced the House to an evening session while Democratic leaders tried to negotiate a reduced plan that centrists would accept.
It was clear that no deal was in sight after White House officials shuffled for hours around Capitol between the offices Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.
Manchin remained true to his claim that he was open to meeting with the president at any point during the campaign. The late ballots were canceled.
