The category includes three African-American actors nominated this year, including Kaluuya co-starring LaKeith Stanfield and “One Night in Miami” star Leslie O Dom (Leslie Odom Jr.).
Kalua paid tribute to Hampton, he said: “We are fortunate to have his life, how lucky it is.”
He added: “When they divide and conquer, we speak of unity.”
Kaluuya also thanked Hampton’s son Fred Hampton Jr. and his eponymous mother Akua Njeri.
After the camera captures that he is shocked by his joke, the actor may have to explain something to his mother because his parents had sex, so he is happy to be alive.
