Conmebol believes that the biennial World Cup will reduce the quality of the game
London- The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) and the European Football Confederation opposed FIFA’s plan to host the World Cup every two years. Jurgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsman, both coaches, raised concerns Friday.
Combebol said in a statement: “There is no sports reason to shorten the time between World Cups,” and it is not clear whether it is signed by the 10 countries that make up the agency. Conmebol supported the project in some instances, but technical analysis proved that it was impossible to implement.
Given that its chairman, Alejandro Domínguez, proposed the same concept to FIFA in 2018, it is shocking that Combebol objected to doubling the frequency of the World Cup. Comebol now believes that the biennial World Cup would reduce the quality and enjoyment of the game.
The European Football Federation warned that FIFA would boycott the World Cup if they don’t adhere to the four year tournament system.
