Mexico City- Andrea Meza’s childhood memories are filled with pink crosses so as not to forget Las Muertas de Juárez, her message is so powerful that As for their participation in Miss Universe on behalf of Mexico this year, which promoted her fight against gender-based violence.
The beauty queen originally came from Chihuahua and was shocked by the conditions for women to live in the country. She wanted to expose such things to shake her conscience.
“I come from a state that has historically been very violent against women. It is normal for me to see pink crosses on the street. I didn’t know that they were women until I grew up. They were because they became women. This simple fact was murdered…
I can’t believe they are part of the picture, we don’t know we have to talk about it. Miss Universe is a platform on which you can provide light and visibility for the subject you want. I believe people will listen to opinions,” Mesa said in a telephone interview.
As the winner of the Universal Studios Mexico contest, the 26-year-old software engineer will participate in a grand event held in Florida, USA on May 16.
Although she knows that many people consider the beauty pageant to be frivolous, Mesa insists that by pointing the camera at her, she will be able to raise her voice to counter the sexist violence that oppresses the entire planet.
“Violence is a disturbing topic because many times we don’t like to be told that we are wrong, but this is my purpose for people to reflect. I think this is the first step in making changes.
We have a deep-rooted culture of masculinity, that is, women are not as worthy as women. We must tell the girls that their opinions and voices are important, and they must improve their opinions and the social space they occupy,” she said.
It is said that Meza was inspired by the platforms that the game gave her, because these platforms have completely changed her.
In school, I was terrified of exhibitions. At the age of 21, she received her first TV interview on a local TV station and was shocked, but today, she is ready to have a dialogue with the world.
“I want to share my life experience, I am so insecure, I even encountered emotional problems before arriving at the station.
She said: “I am proud to inspire other people. I want to tell them that it’s okay to fall and make mistakes, but you have to get up.”
Her evening dress will be designed by Edgar Lozano, and her typical outfit is inspired by alebrijes and designed by Avelino Roque Osorio. Wearing this outfit, she will face what she thinks is the most complicated and exciting stage of the game.
“Mastering this suit, its wings weigh 40 kilograms, but I am wearing high heels and smiling to make myself look like 2 kilograms. This is a challenge, but what makes me excited is that people see that Mexico has many talents. “Everything is 100% Mexican,” he said.
Meza still doesn’t know whether coach Lupita Jones will accompany her to the game because the former beauty queen is running for the governor of Baja California.
“She is very busy with her new project. I like that she is a challenging woman and she is looking for new opportunities to continue to help her country. I don’t know if she will proceed as planned. I would love to see her., But if not, I will understand,” he agreed.
The gala will be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on Sunday, May 16, and can be seen in Mexico via TNT.
