LOS ANGELES (AP), Cher sued Sonny Bono’s widow over royalties earned for Cher songs including “I Got You Babe”
Cher filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday alleging that Mary Bono and others tried to end the terms of business arrangements Cher and Sonny Bono made when they separated in 1975. Each of these agreements entitled Cher to 50% of the royalties for writing or recording songs.
The Associated PressThe lawsuit claims that Sonny’s legal heirs filed a 2016 notice that they were terminating certain song licensing agreements. But, the agreement with Cher “didn’t end and could not” be terminated.
Cher was allegedly damaged by the breach of contract lawsuit.
A Mary Bono representative did not respond to an email requesting comment.
Sonny and Cher were together from 1967 to 1975.
Sonny was killed in a skiing accident at Lake Tahoe in 1998.
