NEW YORK (AP) — Two Canadians held in China have been released from prison.
Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, announced their release last Friday night. This was hours after the US Justice Department dismissed criminal charges against a Huawei CFO.
After Canada’s arrest of Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou, Michael Kovrig was arrested in China. This was in response to an extradition request from the US.
According to the deal with Meng, the Justice Department must dismiss all fraud allegations by next year.
Kovrig and Spavor have spent more than 1,000 days in prison
