NEW YORK (AP) — Amanda Gorman was stunning in custom Vera Wang with a diamond laurel wreath in her hair as the Met Gala kicked off Monday night.
Billie Eilish, her cohost, looked absolutely glamorous in an Oscar de la Renta peach Old Hollywood gown with a full-length train and plunging neckline.
A third of the evening’s presenters, Timothée Chalamet, ran up Fifth Avenue to snap selfies with fans before walking up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in casual white silk sweatpants, a cropped jacket and matching Converse sneakers.
About a third of the usual guests were invited by organizers, which was 400. Celebrities are not welcome at this gala, which has a theme about American independence.
The Costume Institute celebrates its 75th anniversary with this year’s gala.
