WASHINGTON (AP) — Pressure is mounting on President Joe Biden to trim his $3.5 trillion federal government overhaul to win steadfast fellow Democrats.
To continue negotiations on a deal, Biden cancelled Wednesday’s trip to Chicago.
All eyes are on Sens. as lawmakers and the president consider how to amend the proposals. To find out what they can live without, Joe Manchin (West Virginia) and Kyrsten Silenza (Arizona) met privately with Biden.
Biden had a private meeting with Manchin and Sinema at the White House on Tuesday — while Congress also raced to avoid a federal shutdown and debt default.
Republicans blocked a measure that would have raised the government’s debt ceiling for a second day.
