FORT WORTH Texas (AP), American Airlines will be flying a more busy schedule for the holidays than during peak summer vacation.
The airline announced Tuesday that it will fly more than 6,100 passengers on holidays when it is busiest.
American provided the outlook in a regulatory filing. It also stated that it expected to make a profit during the third quarter because of federal pandemic relief. The airline anticipates a loss of $620m to $675m, excluding federal assistance.
According to the airline’s third-quarter revenue forecast, it will fall by about 25% compared to the same period last year. American had previously forecasted a 24%-28% decline in third quarter revenue, but this is slightly less than the American forecast.

Although air travel has returned to almost 80% of its pre-pandemic levels, revenue is still down due to lagging lucrative business travel. American’s Christmas season schedule is aggressive, indicating that they expect leisure travel to remain strong.
Passenger-carrying capacity is measured by airlines multiplying the number seats by the distance flown. American flew 61.1 million seat miles during the third quarter. It anticipates flying 62.2 billion miles in the fourth quarter.
