Brunswick, Georgia (Associated Press). All three men accused in the murder of Ahmad Arbery were found guilty on Wednesday.
After more than ten hours of deliberation the jury decided. The prosecution argued that Abery provoked the defendant to confront him, while the defense lawyer claimed that Abery was acting in self-defense.
Travis McMichael and Greg McMichael, their father and son, saw a 25-year-old man of color running towards them in February 2020 near Brunswick, Georgia. To pursue him, he grabbed a gun from his father and got into a pickup truck. he. Their neighbor William Bryan (or “Rody”) joined them on the hunt in his pickup truck. He recorded a mobile-video of Travis McMichael shooting and killing Arbery.
Arbery was murdered two months later after video of the incident was posted online. This murder became part a larger effort to eradicate racial injustice in the country. Although the prosecutor denied that racism was the motive, federal authorities have filed hate crime charges against the three men. They claim that they pursued Abery for being black. All three of the defendants are white. They will be tried in February.
These people were accused of murder, serious assault, unlawful imprisonment, and attempted illicit imprisonment.

Brunswick, Georgia (Associated Press). The jury continued its deliberations Wednesday. The jurors have reviewed the trial of three white males accused of hunting down Ahmed Abery. A mobile phone video shows a 25-year old black man being beat by a shotgun in a residential area along the coast of Georgia.
Soon after returning to court on Wednesday morning, the jury sent a note to High Court Judge Timothy Wormsley asking to watch two versions of the filmed video-the original and the one enhanced by investigators to reduce shadows ——Each three times.
The jury returned back to the court to review the video. They also listened to the 911 call that was made from the bed of a pickup truck just 30 seconds prior.
A jury of disproportionately white people is currently weighing the murder and other charges against Travis McMichael, father, and Travis McMichael, and William Bryan, their neighbor. It received the case on Tuesday at noon. After reviewing it for six hours, the court adjourned the proceedings without a verdict.
McMichaels said they thought Arbery was an escaped criminal thief. They armed themselves, and then jumped into a pickup truck in pursuit of him on February 23, 2020. Bryan joined the hunt as Travis McMichael shot at close range with his shotgun, while Bryan captured the incident. Abery then grabbed the weapon.
Greg McMichael said to the operator during the 911 call that was reviewed by the jury: “I’m at the coast of Satila.” A black man is running in the street.”
