To win the championship, he defeated the top two in succession
Turin-If Alexander Zverev’s deployment this weekend is any indication, there will be a lot of expectation for the third-ranked player on the planet in 2022.
Zverev beat Daniel Medvedev, second-ranked in the semifinals. This was after he defeated world number one Novak Djokovic three sets each in the semifinals.
Zverev defeated two of the top players in consecutive games to become the ATP Masters Cup Champion for the second year.
Zverev stated, “There’s no better way to close the season than by winning here.” “I look forward to next season.”
Medvedev is the US Open’s defending champion. He won the Masters Cup last season and was just defeated by Zverev in five of his last five attempts.
The championship marks the culmination of a season during which Zverev won an Olympic gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Zverev won 59 of the 2021 Tour Championship games, one more than Medvedev.
What Zverev’s trophy collection lacks is the Grand Slam champion, who lost to Dominic Tim in the 2020 US Open final.
After 12 years of playing in London, Turin hosted the tournament for the first time. The top eight players won their first titles in 2018.
Sunday’s final at the Pala Alpitul Arena paid off for Tuesday’s group match, when Medvedev defeated Zverev in the third set tiebreaker.
Pierre Hugues Herbert & Nicolas Mahut won doubles after beating Rajivram und Joe Salisbury, 6-4 and 6 (0).
